SECTION 2 OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
2.1 INTRODUCTION
This section describes procedures necessary to operate the BANCADO System. General operating procedures include keyboard functions, system startup procedures, and system backup procedures.
Data is entered into the system at the keyboard. Normally, the system asks a question and the operator responds. A response can be either alphanumeric data or numeric-only data. Alphanumeric data includes characters, numbers, and symbols. Numeric-only data includes numeric digits zero through nine, the decimal point, and the minus sign only. Depending on the field format, the decimal point and/or the minus sign may or may not be permitted.
Following each response entered on the keyboard, the <ENTER> key must be pressed. Pressing the <ENTER> key indicates that a field or response is complete.
Experienced operators using the BANCADO System will find the response chaining feature of BANCADO useful. This feature allows the operator to bypass menu displays and/or prompts by chaining responses together with commas. For example, from the BANCADO menu, keying a 1 followed by <ENTER> causes the BANCADO Deposit Account System menu to be displayed. Then keying a 1 followed by <ENTER> causes the Customer Number: prompt to be displayed for the New/Change Customer procedure. To use the response chaing feature, the operator simply keys 1,1 followed by <ENTER>. The system proceeds directly to the Customer Number: prompt for New/Change Customer without causing the Deposit Account System menu to be displayed. The operator can chain any number of responses together by using additional commas.
Pressing <ENTER> in the first character position of a field causes the field to be skipped. Skipping an alphanumeric field causes a blank to be entered in the field. Skipping a numeric-only field causes a zero to be entered in the field.
To make corrections in the current field or response prior to pressing the <ENTER> key, the BACKSPACE key is used. Each time the BACKSPACE key is pressed, the system backs up one character position and erases that character. The BACKSPACE key can only backspace to the beginning of the current field or response.
The CONTROL key can be used in conjustion with other keys to perform the following control functions:
ESCAPE - Simultaneously pressing the CONTROL and ESC keys terminates the current operation and returns to the accounting system menu.
CANCEL - Simultaneously pressing the CONTROL and CAN keys terminates the current entry and returns to the beginning of the current operation. The current entry is not complete, and therefore not written.
DELETE - Simultaneously pressing the CONTROL and DEL keys erases the current entry and returns to the beginning of the current field.
During data entry, when invalid data is entered in a field, the system sounds a bell and positions to the beginning of the field in error. The correct data can then be entered, or the operation can be cancelled.
The following steps describe the procedure for starting up the CADO system.
STEP 1 Turn on the processor.
STEP 2 Turn on the CRTs. The CRT switch is located on the back, lower left side of the CRT.
STEP 3 Turn on the printers. On a data processing printer, the switch is located on the back, lower left side of the printer. On a word processing printer, the switch is located on the front, right side of the printer.
STEP 4 Mount any flexible disks as instructed for your system. Follow the instructions presented in your CADO 20/20 Systems Operators"Manual, CADO C.A.T. III Operators's Manual, or CADO TIGER ATS Utilities Manual or provided by your CADO distributor. When the disks are mounted correctly, close the doors on the disk drives.
STEP 5 Press the button located under the power switch. This button is called the BOOT button.
STEP 6 The system displays the following:
BANCADO SYSTEM 20/20 - RELEASE 5.0
ENTER TIME (HH:MM):
Enter the time and press <ENTER>. (The system will not accept an invalid time.)
The system displays the main menu. The following is an example of the main menu. The main menu for your system may be different than the example depending on the applications used by your bank.
NOTE: The brightness of the screen can be adjusted by turning the dials under the screen on the left side.
To turn the system off:
STEP 1 For lexible disk
systems, open the doors on the disk drives. Remove all disks and place them in
the appropriate envelopes. For rigid disk systems, refer to your CADO 20/20
Systems Operator's Manual or CADO TIGER ATS Utilities Manual.
STEP 2 Turn off the printers.
STEP 3 Turn off the CRTs.
STEP 4 Turn off the processor.
A backup of all data is required to prevent accidental destruction of the BANCADO customer, account, and loan files. A minimum of two sets of backup disks or tapes should be maintained and used for backup on alternate days. The external labels on each set of disks or tapes should be unique in color for easy identification.
It is also highly recommended, both by your CADO representative and by banking authorities, that some form of off-site backup storage be utilized. Off-site storage of backup is usually accomplished through the use of a third set of backup disks or tapes created on a weekly basis.
Note that because certain posting and update programs cannot be restarted without performing a recovery from a backup procedure, system backup should be performed immediately prior to those programs. You may also wish to save extra backup copies for month, quarter, and year end.
With the BANCADO main menu displayed on the screen, select the number indicated for Backup/Restore and press <ENTER>. The system displays:
Enter the appropriate number for the type of drive you are using and press <Enter>. Users typically use device 9 for the tape drive, device 8 for a floppy disk, and device 5 for creating a backup.arc file on your hard drive.. The system displays:
Insert the disk or tape requested and press <Enter>. The system then requests additional tapes or disks as required for the backup or restore until the operation has been completed. Upon completion, press <Enter> to display the BANCADO main menu.
For Archive Set Name, key BANCADO (or another name as instructed by your BANCADO representative, and press <Enter>.
Insert the disk or tape requested and press <Enter>. The system then requests additional tapes or disks as required for the backup or restore until the operation has been completed. Upon completion, press <Enter> to display the BANCADO main menu.
